I was honoured to be invited to speak on an International Women’s Day panel for Virgin Media today, hosted by the lovely TV presenter Konnie Huq. My fellow panellists were Princess Beatrice, comedian Deborah Frances-White, Olympic gold medal winning English hockey player Kate Richardson-Walsh and former Senior MD of Accenture Global Leadership Council Gary Heffernan. It was such an amazing event which lasted for 1.5 hours and was streamed live to all Virgin Media staff.
It’s amazing to think that this time three years ago, I had only just admitted to myself that I am transgender, after living for 48 years as a man. I hadn’t even come out publicly by then either. I never thought that in such a short time, I would be speaking alongside royalty and other famous people to thousands of staff of a global company. I made sure I shut my cat out of the room and blockaded the door for this gig as I didn’t want him upstaging me again and in front of such high-profile people!
