A funny thing happened today…

I received a phone call from a man who said he found a purse on a beach in Devon and inside there were some credit cards and one of my business cards. Although the credit cards were not in my name, he phoned me in the hope that I would know the owner of the purse. He told me her name and although I didn’t know her well, she turned out to be one of my contacts on LinkedIn as I gave her my business card at an event many months ago. I sent her a message on LinkedIn, Facebook and by email. I also left a message on her work landline in the hope that at least one of the messages would get through to her quickly. Thankfully, she did pick up one of the messages and I was able to put her in touch with the finder. She was reunited with her purse within an hour of the finder calling me.

So what do we conclude from this tale?…

(1) With the rise in popularity of digital business cards, printed business cards are still important as they physically hang around; and
